When Did You Start Your Business?

Grasse River Hemp was started in 2019.

What Made You Want To Get Into Producing Your Products?

We cultivate our hemp flower utilizing totally organic methods using no herbicides or pesticides.

What Does Local Mean To You?

First and foremost local means being close to the land and knowing our fellow local farmers, local business owners by their first names. In addition to “Buying Local,” we are helping to keep our family, friends, and community in their chosen livelihoods.

What Do You Enjoy The Most About What You Do?

All of us at Grasse River Hemp are passionate about the cultivation and educating the public about this amazing ancient plant whose sustainable attributes will revolutionize our health, our economy, and our environment.

What Are Some Of The Challenges You Face?

Weather is certainly a challenge…good, bad, or indifferent… but hemp is a very resilient plant. One obstacle worth mentioning… the government on any given day “moves the goalpost” so to speak.

New York state has recently decided to divest itself of issuing “NY State Research Permits” and have all NY State permit holders revert at the last minute to federal cultivation regulations.

As time goes on consumers benefitting in many ways from the cultivation of sustainable hemp… will demand more products, and the farmers and processors with their help will push the government to revise its policies.

How Does The Co-op Influence Your Business?

We are very fortunate and grateful the Potsdam Co-op management and personnel are very enthusiastic and supportive of Grasse River Hemp and our CBD products.

What Are Your Goals And Future Plans For Your Business?

Our immediate goal is a successful 2020 hemp harvest. We are also very excited to have collaborated with Canton Animal Clinic in preparing a veterinarian formulated and approved CBD canine/feline chew aimed at joint health and inflammation.

We are also in the process of building an online store for our hemp products and also for the sale of Northern Limits Farm beef which can be purchased by the whole, half, or quarters.
