Position: Staff Board Member

I have worked at the Co-op since August of 2008. I was cleaning the bakery in the evenings, until I went on maternity leave in 2009. I returned later that year to work in the store as a cashier. I have done various jobs since then, and most recently took over as the Lead Buyer at the end of January, 2020.

I ran for the employee Board seat last year and was officially voted in by the staff. I am running again because I know how important this seat is to them. With my many years of experience and dedication to the Co-op, I feel I am well equipped to represent all of our employees as a Board member.

While I have many outside of work, the Co-op is my home away from home and I think my most important skills and talents are related to the day to day operations of the Co-op and how I can bring a unique perspective to the Board. I believe I am a great communicator and I am passionate (and really excited) about the Co-op’s future.

Our sense of community, and all of our wonderful Co-op Member-Owners and our staff. I think we have done a great job (the best we could given the circumstances) of handling the COVID-19 pandemic and the way it has changed our operations and the shopping experience for our customers. We have an awesome team of employees and working Member-Owners that keep everything running smoothly and I am really proud of that.

There is always room for growth. It can be challenging for us, with a competitive market for natural and organic foods, and especially right now, being in the middle of a pandemic that has forced us to make a lot of changes. I think there is still a lot of room for improvement and I look forward to being a part of that growth.

As the Lead Buyer, I am so excited to see the Co-op expand. There is so much more that we could be doing if we had the space. In the meantime, the staff will continue to do everything we can to keep the Co-op moving forward and successful, and I have a lot of hope for our future.

About Board Service

In general, the Board is responsible for the financial viability of the Co-op. The Board evaluates and approves the Co-op Budget, evaluates the General Manager’s performance, sets goals and objectives for the Co-op and makes sure the Co-op continues to operate in accordance with and in the spirit of its mission and by-laws.

The Co-op Board expects Board members to attend and participate in monthly 2-hour Board meetings (held the third Tuesday of each month). Certain annual events hosted by the Board also require Board attendance, such as the Co-op Annual Meeting, the staff holiday party, and the Co-op Open House. The Board accomplishes a great deal of work in committees and the Board expects members to participate in committees of their choosing. Currently the Board has the following standing Committees: Executive, Finance, Governance/Nominating, Education/Outreach, Membership/Marketing, IT, and Buildings and Grounds.
